Abstract:
|
The D minor partita gains a new perspective from the lute’s vantage point as it unfolds on a more intimate plane.
With the solo for the flute, we leave the realm of gigantesque tasks set before a saint to try his patience and devotion that the violin solo represent for the violinist. Only the uninterrupted sixteenth notes of the flute allemande seem to go beyond the practicable limits of the instrument, a fact that has suggested to scholars and flute players that the work as we know it( it is not in Bach ´s hand) is already an arrangement. Another enigma of the solo lies in the names of the individual movements and their possible relation to the corresponding musical characters. |
