Abstract

The catalogue of works published by Gerard lists altogether II cello concerti which are ascribed to Boccherini. Boccherini left 10 record on the begin¬nings of a movement or on t:e number of cello concerti of his own composition and no evidence can be found in his personal catalogue of works which does not list the solo concerto and some other musical genres. Since ca. 177) five of his cello con¬certi were published in the form of editions of the orchestral parts in the imporlant centres of music publishing: G 477.479,481). 431. and 483. So far the only evidence of the other cencerti has been found respectively in one to three enpies from the 18th or 19th century. This explains why -with the exception of the scon of G 474-they could not be found anvwhere for Boccherini s musical estate remained in the family and was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War lifty years ago. Last year I was fortunate enough to find a twelfth, so far unknown cello concerto in E flat major in Naples which has now been recordedfor the first time. Quite a few editions of Bocrherini's concerti which are still used today are arranged versions. For this recording all preserved sources have been thoroughly studied with the aim of restoring the original text and with the will lo achieve an interpre-tation which is closely orientated towards the ori-gnal texts.
