Anton Arensky
Was born on august 11, 1861 in Novgorod, Russia.The son of a physician, Arensky studied at the private music school ´´Russo´´ in st. Petersburg at an early age. In 1882 he graduated with a degree in composition from the st. Petersburg conservatory , where his principle teacher had been Rimsky-Korsakov. Arensky began teaching harmony and counterpoint at the Moscow conservatory that same year. During his career as an educator his students included konuss, koreschenko, goldenwiser and Rachmaninoff. He served as conductor of the Russian choir society from 1888-95, and between 1895-1901 as director of st. Arensky perfomed as pianist and conductor thoughout Russia and abroad, while maintaining his activity as a composer. |
