Sergei Nakariakov Trumpet & orchestra

Abstract

Sergei Nakariakov is a Russian trumpeter, who was regarded from an early age as a virtuoso in the mold of Maurice André. He started out taking piano lessons at age 6, but he switched to the trumpet after a spinal injury. In 1988, he received an award at an adult brass competition, and two years later, following a performance at the Korsholm Festival, he was dubbed "the Paganini of the trumpet" in the Finnish press (as well as "the Caruso of the trumpet" by Musik und Theater). When he was 15, he released his first album. His repertoire encompasses the standards for trumpet, but he has expanded it to include many arrangements of music for other instruments. He has regularly performed transcriptions of violin, viola, and cello concertos, notably playing the cello works on flügelhorn. Nakariakov has studied exclusively since 1995 with his father, Mikhail Nakariakov, who made many of the transcriptions his son plays.

Nakariakov has performed with major orchestras around the world, often as a guest at festivals, and given many recitals with his sister, pianist Vera Nakariakova, and Belgian pianist, Maria Meerovitch. He records on Teldec.
